The Character Bee, similar to a spelling bee, is an opportunity to for CI students to develop mastery of the Chinese characters and participate in a fun and friendly competition. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 6:00pm-8:00pm. All 1st-5th grade CI students are welcome to participate.
BCIC is seeking native Mandarin-speaking parents to serve as judges. The Character Bee will be organized by grade level. Judges will serve on a panel with another native Mandarin-speaker and a BHS student-volunteer. Judges practice scheduled for April 23rd 7:30pm-8:15pm.
We are also seeking BHS CI student or Adult volunteers to serve as hosts and assistants.
- Hosts will welcome participants and their families, check them in to the Bee and direct them to their room. Some hosts will set up and oversee the refreshment table.
- Judges’ assistants will help keep time and keep score (Juniors and Senior BHS students, please)
- BHS Students are eligible to receive service credit for participating.
Judges are requested to attend an in-person training session at Station Middle School prior to the event.
